Om & Zul on a RW1 course

Om and Zul, the 2 shy but keen outdoor enthusiast were all game for the 2 day rope skills program. The program started with the introduction of gears and some simple friction knots.

Then we moved on to some safety techniques at heights. Both Zul and Om, weren’t too sure on that, and got a little nervous as they got to the edge of the cliff. Once the found out that their technique, knots and procedures were right, and were still hanging by the cliff safely, they began to trust the gears a little more. And soon, they both had a little more faith in the systems that they were on. After that, they were continuously abseiling and hungry for more.

As Zul wanted to learn to be an abseil guide, for the next setup, we began going through the “hows and whys” of an abseil system. With supervision, they then began setting up their on abseil line off the next cliff.

After the lunch break, they got into an ascending technique called prusiking. That’s where the real fun begins! And so begin their ascents and descents on trees and cliff for the rest of the day.

Day 2, started with a recap of what was practised the day before. And then we combined the abseil and prusiking technique to control movements on rope. It started off a little confusing, but once they understood the principles, they both seem to enjoyed their new found skill.
