3 buddies on RIE program at Bukit Takun

3 buddies, Yee Siang, Chua and Sim were on their way to take on Bukit Takun. Because they are avid outdoor adventurers, the hike to the base was a breeze. Despite that, this is the first outdoor rock climb for all 3!

We began the program with the introduction of some climbing gear and basic climbing knots. Because of their enthusiasm, they learnt pretty fast and were soon learning belay skills. We used the PBUS (Pull-Brake-Under-Slide) method, which was quite confusing at the start, but once they understood the principles, it became second nature.

All took turns to climb, belay and backed up the belayer. Chua was the daring one as he volunteered to climb first! He had abit of an advantage as he had height, and true enough, he soon reached the top with ease. Yee Siang, an agile person, had the right technique and was ready for any climb that was thrown to him. If he were to pursue climbing, he’d definitely be a pro at it! Sim, had great enthusiasm. Even though she faced some tough moments, she’d collect herself, try different techniques till she reached the top. Fantastic fighting spirit!

Weather was fair that afternoon, and soon we were at the 30 meter ledge ready for the abseil. All three nailed it! Congratulations guys!
