The People

With 20 years of combined experience, Learning Adventures is about education in the outdoors. To simplify what we do, we are a school that teaches participants to prep themselves, attain skills, build confidence & awareness and finally to get themselves from point A to point B independently. Our program also involves around a theme that encourages local and foreign participants to learn and explore the outdoors of our country in a unique and non touristy way, immersing them in the local and native culture, combining with rich history that makes our program an experience that would last a lifetime.

Learning Adventures is:

Chadel- in one of his 'lighter' moods

Chadel Soon – Born in Penang in 1978, but grew up in Lumut, has always been involved in sports and outdoor activities, due to the influence from his dad as a naval officer. This active lifestyle continued but got a little more serious in his early 20’s where he started freelancing by guiding participants on local trails, and assisting numerous programs for an outdoor company. In 2003, Chadel worked in Langakawi as an outdoor trainer in one of Malaysia’s largest outdoor education provider, and had his first formal training by instructors from Outward Bound Australia. This was a turning point in his life, where he had found a career path that he would be passionately involved for a very long time. This led on to more opportunities working as a river guide and eventually, a program coordinator training police and Bomba on recreational outdoor skills for an Australian company based in Malaysia.

By July 2007, Chadel receive his Bronze Instructor Award (Lifesaving), and continued on his outdoor education in New Zealand, volunteering and learning in several outdoor organizations like Sir Edmund Hillary’s Outdoor Pursuits Centre and New Zealand Kayak School. He eventually got married there before coming back to Malaysia. Back home he was working for AJ Hackett KL as the Operations Manager, but had a dream that he always wanted to fulfill, to be a NOLS instructor. Soon he set off to the states, spent 32 days in the Rocky Mountains and came out as a NOLS instructor. Chadel also became a certified Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician from WMI (Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS) before coming back home.

Chadel also loves collecting comics and action figures, watching animated & feature films, photography, playing the guitar, and having a Ramli burger after midnight!

Keong goes everywhere with his daypack!

L.C. Keong – As a small kid growing up in Baling Kedah, Keong spent a lot of time venturing into the jungle and floating down the river on tire tubes. After completed Form 6, he attended the 28 days Standard Course program at Outward Bound Lumut (OBL). This ‘calling’ for adventure continued into his varsity years as a casual Course Assistant at OBL and as a Royal Malaysian Navy reservist. In 2003, Keong joined an outdoor education organization in Langkawi and later an Australian based company in Kuala Lumpur specializing in corporate type training.

In recent years, Keong has developed a personal interest in the field of Bushcraft and is incorporating them into his programs. Bushcraft programs in Malaysia explore the jungle skills and knowledge of the local natives while discovering more about oneself.

Keong enjoys walks into the jungle with friends and learning new Bushcraft skills. He lives in Petaling Jaya with his wife and dog Sox. You can follow Keong’s adventures on his blogsite My Rainforest Adventures.

Merging the two different backgrounds, Keong’s Bushcraft & native knowledge and Chadel’s recreation skills & safety knowledge, would boast unique packaged programs, that offers abundance of knowledge to any student of Learning Adventures.
