GOALS
- To provide safe, consistent, quality experience for all participants.
- To provide an easily implemented program structure that familiarizes campcraft techniques and safety issues in the wilderness.
OBJECTIVES
- To experience campcraft skills in the natural environment in a safe manner.
- To become familiar with the uses, safety concerns, and general care of the gear participants will be using during the program.
- Recognize recreation impacts and the means to minimize those impacts.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
- This fast paced program is designed for trainees who want to learn and practice campcraft skills in a safe and controlled environment.
- Programs may be altered and/or adapted to the situation (e.g. weather, participant involvement).
- Although the program is conducted near towns, we are still in the vicinity of the jungle. Participants may encounter wild plants, animals and insects that may cause harm. The recognition and management of risk is critical to both the development of leadership and to safety and health of our participants and staff.
- Some participants may have been exposed to methods or techniques that might differ from our program, which is fine, but during this program, participants are encourage to be open to the school’s methods or techniques, to create a standard training environment.
