Rock Intro Experience

Experience rock climbing and abseil practices on low angled natural surface of Bukit Takun. All the while getting ready for a multipitch climb to the top of Bukit Takun, then abseil off the 30m ledge!

GOALS

  1. To provide safe, consistent, quality experience for all participants.
  2. To provide an easily implemented program structure that familiarizes climbing and safety issues at heights.



OBJECTIVES

  1. To experience rock climbing and abseiling on natural surfaces in a safe manner.
  2. To become familiar with the uses, safety concerns, and general care of the gear participants will be using during the program.
  3. Recognize recreation impacts and the means to minimize those impacts.



PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

  • This fast paced program is designed for participants who want to learn and experience climbing and abseiling in a safe and controlled environment.
  • Programs may be altered and/or adapted to the situation (e.g. weather, participant involvement).
  • Although the program is conducted in a well established climbing crag, we are still in the vicinity of the jungle. Participants may encounter wild plants, animals and insects that may cause harm. The recognition and management of risk is critical to the development of health and safety of our participants and staff. Do not take the jungle for granted.
  • Some participants may have been exposed to methods or techniques that might differ from our program, which is fine, but during this program, participants are encourage to be open to the school’s methods or techniques, to create a standard training environment.

  1. Arrival at guard house
  2. Documentation (insurance policies, indemnity, health)
  3. Commence hike up Bukit Takun
  4. Gear talk – Harnesses, Helmets, Ropes, Carabiners, Belay devices
  5. Top rope rock climbing
  6. Knots & hitches
  7. Belay School
  8. Nursery abseil – Abseil technique, stuck abseiler
  9. Risk Management at heights
  10. Multi pitch rock climb
  11. Abseil
  12. Pack out (END)
